FAQs and Answers
Brass Tax - What is it? How does it save money?
Let's Chat! Most simply put, we charge less than a full-time in house recruiter. Recruiters salaries range from $75-120k for 5 years or less of experience. You'd also pay for healthcare, equipment, and payroll taxes.
All said and done, hiring a single $75k employee to recruit in house could cost you nearly $100k! You also have to keep them on payroll year-round, even when you're not hiring [like in December or during unexpected hiring freezes]. Not to mention the expensive software needed to do recruitment properly.
Agencies will charge you 20-30% of the base salary for a permanent placement. On a $100k salary, that is an average fee of $25k, $200k is $50k and so forth. This year if you hired 2 candidates with an average salary of $150k each from an agency you’d pay $75k in agency fees, breaking even with the cost of an entry level in-house recruiter.
So save even more money than both agencies and in-house recruiters with the best of both worlds in fractional recruitment from Cranberry.
Is this the cheapest option?
Let's Chat!Fractional recruitment is an alternative to both an in-house recruiter and using a third party agency for permanent placement. Fractional recruitment combines the low cost of in-house recruitment with the precision and flexibility of using a specialized firm. Our program allows you to hire in volume at a cheaper cost than both alternative options.
At this time, we are able to charge as low as $5,000 per month to show you unlimited candidates. This $5,000 fee provides you with a $200,000 balance that resets to $200,000 each month you pay the subscription price. As you hire, we will subtract the base salary of the hired candidate(s) from the $200k. Should you need to go over this amount, no problem! If the difference is greater than $25,000; we will merely charge a 2% fee on base salary, much less than an agency’s 20-30% of base salary.
Note: The balance doesn’t carry over month to month, should you need to pause hiring across the board, no problem, we will pause our fee. When you’re ready, you can turn hiring back on again. This flexibility not only gives you more control than an in-house recruiter, but it stops you from wasting money in periods like the holidays or hiring freezes.
Partners that have participated in our services for more than 50% of the year, can enjoy our fractional recruitment services free of charge. Should you need to go on a hiring freeze, you must notify Cranberry via writing/email.
If a candidate is still in progress for interviews or decisions, you are still considered hiring, so you would need to end that process to be considered on a “hiring pause.” The month of the hire’s start date is the month they will be considered as “hired” for the purposes of the balance.
Why is this better than in-house?
Let's Chat! The only thing that you will miss out on from having a full-time in-house recruiter would be their personality at team building events. Other than that, there’s no difference. No training. No headaches. No managing or putting the recruiter on a career path. No sick days. No clocking out at 5pm, only clocking out when the job is done. You also don’t need to pay a salary during periods of which you’re not hiring (you can turn it on, and off). Full-time employees (especially of this generation) clock out at 5pm (or earlier if they can); this way you get recruitment services 24/7 - which is important because your competitor's top employee won’t want to speak with a recruiter while his boss is sitting on the other side of the desk.
This is better than a full-time employee at a fraction of the cost.
Other hidden fees of bringing someone "in-house."
Let's Chat!Recruiters just don’t wake up one day and start recruiting. They need software, licenses, and hardware. If you’re not interested in paying $1k+ a month to pay for the proper software, you’re throwing away money. We take on the recruitment and talent acquisition costs. This will save your company at least $5,000 per year on average.
Why build infrastructure when you don't need to? Why pay for a software your team knows nothing about?
Aren't outside agencies more expensive than in-house?
Let's Chat!We agree, growing businesses need to focus on growing, not how to pay recruiters ransom for their placements. Agency fees cost between 20-30% per placement. To hire an employee with 3-6 years experience through our competitors, you will be paying an additional $28-48,000 per hire each time. Our services allow you to access a full recruitment agency’s team for a significantly reduced fee that you can access or cancel anytime. Furthermore, if your hire from a recruiter doesn’t work out, you’re screwed! With Cranberry, we will get you another replacement at any time of the year.
The fees are absolutely worth it sometimes, but why pay more for something when you don’t need to? Say goodbye to high fees for placements and say goodbye to inflated salaries. Recruiters are incentivized to push candidate’s salaries to the top of the salary banding or as high as possible. Don’t believe inflated salaries exist in this industry? Think about how many developers with 3 years of experience make $120-$150,000 or more per year!
Will I still have control over the hiring proces?
Let's Chat! You have 100% control over the hiring process. You choose who you interview and who you hire. You choose who you fire. They are YOUR employees. We provide a service that you can tailor, customize, and control. In fact, you will have even more control over the process than if it were in-house. More control and less work for you and HR, what’s not to love!
Is there a commitment?
Let's Chat! No, there's no commitment to try. If you decide later that it makes more sense to bring someone in-house, no worries. If you change your mind again and want to come back, no problem. Need some additional help for a month or two, no problem.
Contracting out recruitment not only absolves you of employer responsibilities and taxes for the individual, but also lets you cancel or pause hiring as needed and pick it up again with the same team when you are. Contrasting with hiring a full-time employee where you need to commit to paying healthcare and other expenses as well as keeping this person on indefinitely. For example, our partners enjoy NOT paying our subscription fees in December, a period when most companies don’t hire, but can still reap the benefits as if they were. An in-house recruiter you need to provide for even if you are not hiring.
What can Cranberry do that my in-house couldn't?
Let's Chat! When your in-house recruiter wants to do a search, it is impossible to do it anonymously or discreetly without lying to the candidate or breaking the law [in some states]. Working with Cranberry, allows you to conduct a search/information gathering mission at arms length while maintaining your reputation.
We also put in more hours for each search than what a single internal person could do. Our recruiters work as a unit to fill your roles. With multiple people on it, you won’t wonder if there are any stones unturned. Furthermore, we can speak with candidates before, during or after work; including weekends and holidays. You can’t make a full-time recruiter do that.
Thinking about starting a new department or team, but not sure what your competitors are doing? We can find out who they are hiring, from, where, and how much they pay and report back to you quickly with recommendations on how your company can better position themselves to attract top talent.
What makes Cranberry's people different?
Let's Chat!Cranberry is a 100% US owned and operated company. Our employees are all US citizens, we are not offshoring our work to the UK, Europe, or Asia like other major recruitment companies. This lets us understand the nuances of culture and career better. A college graduate in New Castle, UK isn’t going to be able to relate to a C-Suite executive in Chicago or the career aspirations and dreams of a director in California looking to take the next step up in their career.
Agencies focus on recruitment like sales. Trying to shove round pegs into square holes as fast as possible and hope nobody notices. We will give you something much more - strategic growth and stability. We are partnering with you for the long-haul. Your success is our success.
How does Cranberry screen candidates?
Let's Chat!We don’t find it necessary to cold call 100 candidates per day like some sort of call center. We have much more success observing the market and picking the right people to approach strategically. We provide constant teaching and feedback on soft skills for our recruiters so they can form better relationships with prospective candidates. We not only screen around the desired information, but we make our recruiter actually learn what it means in the real world (better than just words on paper). We don’t just screen candidates based on ability, but also soft skills, career aspirations, willingness to leave job, and also culture/personality fit for the company.
Our recruiters don’t clock out at 5pm, they are ready to keep hunting night and weekends until the job is done. [If you’re working with an offshore agency, their day ends around 11am. Meaning you see less GOOD candidates.]
How many candidates will I see for each role?
Let's Chat!Unlimited candidates does seem like a lot, but you won’t be looking at unlimited candidates. Our team will screen candidates (unless they are already in our database) for the role you want. Recruiters will send their top candidates to your account manager at Cranberry who will then compile and present you with the best 3 fits. If those candidates are not acceptable, we will continue our search accordingly and continue sending candidates as they come along until you hire. You won’t be overwhelmed with interviews or resumes, that’s our job.
What if there's an opening for a role I didn't expect?
Let's Chat! Here today and gone tomorrow, that seems to be the way things are going at least. The average turnover rate in the renewables industry today is 1.5 years. Younger generations are more likely to leave a job within a few years or less and that is having ripple effects throughout the world.
When there’s staff turnover it costs you - directly and indirectly. Directly from work not being done, but also from the costs to replace that person. You also have no idea when someone will be leaving their role until it is too late. Agencies will gladly charge you $20,000+ just to fill ONE role a second time. In some cases the agency will replace it for free, but if they’re out of their rebate period (they usually are) then it is another fee for you as the hiring company.
Cranberry doesn’t eliminate turnover, but we will fill empty seats as they come up so you don’t have to worry when you get a 2-week notice!
